A glorious Past
In homage to Squale's glorious past, the Sub-39 series evokes a model produced by Squale in the late 50s. At that time Von Buren, the brand's founder, was designing and manufacturing watchcases for the most popular brands in the watch industry.
In 2019, to commemorate Squale's 60th birthday, the brand introduced a 150-limited-edition first model from the new Sub-39 series. Now there is a range of different models from which to choose, all of them characterized by a distinctive vintage charm.

SUB-39 GMT Vintage
The Sub-39 GMT Vintage was born from a desire to expand a collection that boasts a strong connection with the brand’s history. Its case design is inspired by models produced by Squale in the 60s during the golden era of dive watches, and it has been updated with an impressive water resistance of up to 300 meters.
A unique watchcase
The case of every watch in this series is inspired by the original model. The diameter is 39mm instead of 34mm. The lug-to-lug length is 48.5mm, ensuring a comfortable fit on every wrist. Its thickness, including the sapphire crystal of the dial, is approximately 12mm.
The striking and timeless 316L stainless steel watchcase guarantees water-resistance up to 30 ATM (300mt).
The crown is positioned at three o’clock as it is in the original model, a departure from most current Squale models. The 120-click uni-directional bezel features indices that evoke the original model. These details give this timepiece its distinctive vintage appeal.

SUB-39 Black Arabic
Squale's Sub-39 Black Arabic is available with a black dial and Arabic indices. It's the only watch in the collection to feature Arabic numerals as indices.
This choice is dictated by a desire to replicate the 60s version. The watch is identical to its predecessor except for the watchcase's diameter (previously 34 mm and now 39 mm), the sapphire glass substituting the original mineral glass and the indices made with SuperLuminova instead of tritium as in the original version.
SUB-39 SuperBlue
Squale's Sub-39 SuperBlue features a blue dial with indices and hands in SuperLuminova for high legibility even under low-light conditions.
This version is inspired by a model from the 70s that featured a different version of the classic logo at 12 o'clock. This was due to the fact that, in 1959, Charles Von Buren trademarked both the Squale and Supersquale brands. The latter was characterized by a slightly different logo from the one we currently associate with Squale.
In those years both brands produced several models. Over time the Supersquale brand was dropped, converging all production under a single Squale brand, the one we know to this day. The Squale Sub-39 SuperBlue takes everything, even the name, from this historic edition, once again celebrating its own glorious past. Another key feature of this watch is the hands. This type, not found on any other Squale watch in the collection, was widely utilized in the 70s by several brands and it was intentionally left unchanged on this timeless model.
